What happens when you’re asked to host a panel discussion with Stella McCartney? At first you are absolutely delighted. You’ll get to meet your sartorial idol. Ask her all kinds of questions. You’ll… wait. Go back to the first part. You’ll get to meet your sartorial idol. Oh no. No, no, no. Nooooo! What the hell do you wear?
Yesterday morning, I indeed got to play host to Stella in her new role as the patron of the Designer for Tomorrow Award, and I’ll tell you a lot more about what a delight she truly was later, including her thoughts on trends, being a working mother and why nobody wants to sit next to her at the Christmas party. But I wanted to start by telling you about one of the big reasons the morning went as smoothly as it did. Which is that I had no doubt I was wearing the right outfit. Antonia Goy very kindly lent me a pair of light-grey slouchy silk pants and a black slip top, and when I put them on, I couldn’t have felt more comfortable, more like myself and more prepared to meet Stella. Thank you, Antonia!
