flat cap

By James | Published: 13. August 2011

I searched what seemed the whole of London for a flat cap a few years ago. At the time nobody was selling them. When I finally found this one in a London department store my friends (especially John) teased me mercilessly for wearing it. A flat cap! Nobody wore that apart from their own grandfathers. But then a few months later a lot of people, not just octogenarians, were suddenly wearing them – including John.

Lately I’ve noticed them on a lot of heads in Berlin as well. Is the flat cap back? Or are people just forced to come up with an alternative “summer” wardrobe? With all the rain we’ve had I’ve certainly been wearing mine a lot since May.

The flatcap never went out in my opinion. Good job on finding a nice one though. The Berlin flat caps are all the Kangol style or those weird split Dickensian ones.

You need to go back to London to get one

Perhaps they never do come into, or go out of fashion. I certainly wear mine year after year. I think the trick is to buy them from traditional outfitters rather than fashion brands.
