the incomperable carine

I ordered this book in May, as a present to myself for my birthday, even though I knew it wasn’t coming out until fall. The anticipation alone was almost enough of a present. It finally arrived this Saturday. “Irreverent” by Carine Roitfeld is a wonderful celebration of a life in fashion, with dozens and dozens of the former Paris Vogue editor’s fantastic fashion spreads, candids of her and pictures from the family album. And interviews with her that show that style has much more to do with the right attitude to fashion than with a piece of clothing. However, it also helps if you look fabulous in a pencil skirt.

It’s almost impossible to pick favourites, but these are some of the images I wanted to rip out straight away and put in frames.

So the book just had to be on my dream shopping list for fall that I wrote for Okka’s blog Slomo (in German). It’s the kick-off to my style column that I’ll be writing over there every Monday. Which is a privilege and a pleasure. And which will obviously be my excuse to wear sunglasses at my computer, drink gallons of Diet Coke and yell at my (imaginary) underlings one day a week.

Hope you’ll enjoy the column as much as I’ll enjoy writing it!
