*I went to a screening of “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” last night, the brilliantly dark adaptation of John Le Carré’s spy novel. They got pretty much every talented English actor on board who had some spare time (they’re all very, very good, although I’m starting my private “Gary Oldman for Oscar” campaign right now!). Paul Smith advised the filmmakers on getting the gloomy look of 70s London just right. Smith also designed some limited edition and, I think, quite gorgeous posters for the movie (that went up postcard-sized on my notice board this morning). And here are some other things I loved this week:
*Miss Piggy. Because she plays a French Vogue editor in the upcoming “Muppets” film. Because she gives better poses than any model in this fashion spread. Because she says: “Style is about expressing your inner self, capturing your personal ethos, and, most importantly, spending someone else’s money.”
*The jumping streetstyles Craig Arend shot for New York Magazine. Fun!
*The wonderful animated short film about a skeleton falling in love with a flame-haired beauty that Spike Jonze made in collaboration with Olympia Le-Tan.
*The DIY hair cuff Tine showed on her blog Inattendu (via 5 inch and up). Finally a good use for those silver wine rings that have been gathering dust in my kitchen for years.
*The jumpsuit Hilary Walsh wears on Closet Visit. Oh, and the black dress, too.
*The fashion spread with Kirsten Dunst in T Magazine. And A.O. Scott on Patti Smith in the same issue.
*The Versace for H&M collection. No, wait. I don’t love the actual collection. I love the fact that this time I won’t be getting up at 7a.m. to queue for a H&M designer collection. Because this one? This one’s a miss.
Have a great weekend!
