James wrote yesterday that men don’t have much of a choice when it comes to summer dressing, except: denim shorts. He’s right. A summer wardobe IS easier for girls. And yet, for the last couple of summers women have been wearing denim cut-offs hotpants. Some people would even make the argument that a girl isn’t a proper fashion blogger, unless she prances around in denim cut-offs, but that is the one thing you will never see me wear. Ever. One: I don’t have the legs for them. Two: Even if I did, I’d like to think that I wouldn’t wear cut-offs. They just seem boring next to the variety of dresses out there.
And here are my favourite five dresses that will get me through this summer.
Top: A bright blue suede number from the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection. What? That collection had clothes in it? Jup. So while hundreds of crazed women stormed past me to get to the shoes, I quite easily got my hands on the dress. The shape is simple in the front, but the back is cut very low. Just the right amount drama to make it interesting.
The latest addition to my wardrobe, a short caftan from Zara in a black and white print, that is so light and breezy that I’ll want to wear it every day.
This one is from By Malene Birger. I love the unusual colour. And I love that it doesn’t look like much on the hanger, but the cut really works when you wear it.
A grey silk dress by Twenty8Twelve. I bought this on my last trip to New York almost four years ago. Me and my friend Aaron had been shopping for him all day, when we made a final stop at Saks. I saw this dress, tried it on, wanted it – then I looked at the price tag. Good thing I had Aaron with me, because he simply said: “Just whack it on your credit card. It’s what it’s there for!” I haven’t regretted it.
This cornflower blue silk dress from Zara is the oldest one in the collection. I bought it seven or eight years ago. It still works.

my problem each year is finding a nice dress. one that doesn’t look like beachwear, but is still breezy enough. i end up just buying something on sale, so that i HAVE a dress and get rid of it next year. the kaftan from zara is right up my alley…
