I last moved house eight years ago. Do you have any idea how many charging cables it’s possible to collect in eight years that you no longer know what technical device they belong to? A LOT OF CHARGING CABLES.
It’s lucky we won’t be able to move into our new place for another three months, because it’s going to take that long to tidy out our old place. You see, I’ve decided not to take anything unnecessary. The old charging cables. The burnt pots. The surprise boxes that I would put into the moving van unopened, because I’d be too afraid to find out what’s in them and which would remain unopened in the new apartment for the next eight years. James thinks that keeping my collection of British Vogues, 2004-2012, is unnecessary, but I’m sure I’ll read them again some day. All of them.
First out with the old, then in with the new. That’s the deal I’ve made with myself. Or rather: For every charging cable that’s moving to the recycling yard, I’m allowed to post something new on Pinterest. Which is, of course, pure self-delusion, as I can’t help myself from constantly pinning the imaginary dream home.
I’ve always liked the months before you arrive at a new place the best. Not the tidying up part. The dreaming part. When you’re thinking about how everything will look. When you’re imagining, fake-ordering five different bedside table lamps and making everything new again.
I’ve been fantasizing about a Franco Albini rattan chair since before we even thought about moving. (Side note: If Instagram is any indication, rattan chairs are the new Beni Ourain rugs. I couldn’t withstand those either). I’m moseying over to 1st Dibs and Chairish once a day at the moment, just to see which one of the fabulous Albini chairs I can’t afford. But there are so many alternatives out there that I’ll find the right one eventually. I’m thinking that a stack of Vogues will look just perfect next to it. Here are five favourites, from left:
Armchair Peacock from KARE
Chair Singapore from POLS POTTEN
Swinging chair Lot from BROSTE COPENHAGEN
Chair Kubu from DUTCH BONE
Armchair Chantal from SIKA-DESIGN
