Happy New Year!

When I woke up yesterday morning, I thought I might still be drunk on champagne, feeling light-headed and buzzy. If I was drunk, then not from a couple of glasses of bubbly, but on the feeling of waking up on the first day of the new year. It might be silly to put that much weight on a simple date, yet it marks being at the beginning of something, and that gave me a little rush. That and the pancakes, bacon, eggs over easy and massive vanilla milkshake I had for breakfast at 4pm in the best company.

Before the last year ended, I went to Spain with my family, making a stop-over in Santander to visit my little brother on the way home. Which gave me my first goal for 2013: go back to Santander. I mean, look how beautiful it is there. I don’t know why Northern Spain wasn’t on my list of places to travel before, but it is now.

And that’s it. That’s my list. Okay, not quite.

I want this to be the year when I learn to relax and stop stressing over things that aren’t worth the energy. When I spend more time with loved ones and less time inside my own head. When I start believing more in the things that I’m good at rather than always looking for the fault. When I question less and ask for more. But, mostly, I want to let this year just come to me and show me what it’s got. For now I’m still cherishing the feeling of Day 1.

What about you? Goals? Resolutions? Oh, and if you have any travel tips for Cantabria and the Basque country, I’d love to hear them.

P.S. See? Beautiful! I think I’m going to start looking for flights now…

I travelled northern spain with my girlfriend last summer. we took a vw-bus and just drove the route on the coast. one of the prettiest little cities was Comillas, just about 40 or 50 kilometers from santander. beautiful old city center, small beach, GREAT tapas and food in general…. and of course everything else northern spain has to offer: rugged sea vs. green countryside, nice people, and just a little more nice “roughness” in general (I’m from northern germany though, so this might just be my thing ;))
    enjoy 2013 and the travelling!
    best,

Maybe it’s because I’m from the North of Germany too (ha!), but that sounds marvellous. Thanks so much for the tip! I’m dreaming about the food already…

Hope you have a great year, too!

Danke! “Mehr Bewegung und so” ist auch eines meiner Ziele, hahaha. Aber das ist es ja ständig, nicht nur am 1. Januar. Vor allem, weil ich festgestellt habe: mehr Bewegung bedeutet weniger Grübeln und mehr Klarheit. Wo waren noch gleich meine Laufschuhe?
