Emboldened by the success of the leather tote, I decided to make some more bags. Simply because I want more bags. I have used the same shape as before but mixed the leather with canvas and changed a few of the details to give it a more utilitarian look.

I'm not exactly sure when I dreamt up this bag, but I do know I've wanted it for a long time. I've had bags in similar shapes before and think that kind of soft, slouchy bag is perfect for long summer days, when you're carrying things from morning to night. Only the others have always been made from canvas, and what I really wanted was one in leather.

I dress quite simply. That probably doesn't sound very interesting. It certainly didn't seem to me like my wardrobe was interesting enough for a while, which is why I tried quite a few things so that nobody would notice. One of my great pleasures is reading Alexis Petridis' fashion column in the Guardian with my Saturday morning coffee, but I couldn't agree with his "A right royal revolt" piece from a couple of weeks back. I was just putting the finishing touches to this jacket and Prince Charles was definitely in my thoughts when I put it together.

These trousers have become something like my uniform in the past three months, whether I'm going to work or going out. They are the same slouchy, tapered boy's fit as the red ones, but cut from fine black wool and, obviously, by the same designer: James.
