My book comes out today.

When I was about halfway done, but had one of those days when I felt at my wit’s end, the editor from the publishing house called. „We’re printing the cover in three different colours. Also, we’re trying to embroider the title on each book. If we can get it to work, it’s going to be amazing.“

Looking at the book – my book – on the desk next to me right now, in three different colours and with the embroidered title, I can only say this: She was right. This is pretty damn amazing.

I forgot to mention one other thing in my previous post that I’ve learnt to excel at as a mother: Online shopping. It has the advantage that 1) online shops are never closed, 2) you can’t lose your kid in an online shop and therefore won’t have to crawl around the store, trying to make out a pair of size 23 trainers running away from you between clothes racks and 3) you can do it while you’re doing other things. And, no, I will absolutely not tell you how many shopping baskets I can fill during a regular work day.

We had to fill out one of those doctor’s questionnaires recently that you seem to constantly have to fill out as a parent. When did your child turn from his back to his belly for the first time? When did he crawl? When did he walk? We couldn’t recall immediately. Although we probably thought in each of those moments that we’d never forget them.

I’m spending my summer vacation on the Baltic Sea this year. Which isn’t going to stop me from packing at least one caftan. You might think that’s needlessly optimistic. But! The caftan is a piece of clothing that’s cause for optimism. The main reason being that nothing is easier to wear in the summer, whether you’re in Berlin, on a small Danish island or in a finca on Mallorca. Just pull it over your head – done.
